A great marriage starts with dinner?

Quite often Jason and I decide to have a nice romantic dinner together.  No music, no television, no internet, no phones…  Just him and I, having a nice, slow enjoyable dinner where we catch up on our day and our week.  We simply sit together and share a meal or wine, great conversation and a kiss here and there.

It sounds so small and maybe even cheesy but that quality time with your loved one can be so relaxing and incredible.  Jason and I are both extremely busy people but we have made it a point to spend quality time with each other no matter what.  We all have our excuses but taking that time for our loved ones can make a world of difference!

Why not have a romantic dinner tonight?

Fusion Hummus

We have all tried Hummus at a certain point. Either bought it or lucky enough that your mom has that special recipe that has been in the family for years. I decided to try and add a twist to the “conventional” way of making Hummus.

How to make Fusion Hummus:
2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
1 clove garlic without skin
2 cans of chickpeas
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup cold water
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Strip rosemary leaves from stems and place leaves in the food processor. Add the garlic and pulse until finely chopped. Pour in the chickpeas; process until evenly blended. With the food processor running, slowly pour in the olive oil and balsamic vinegar and process until evenly
blended. Pour in the water and process to make a spreadable consistency. Add salt and pepper to
taste. Chill before serving. Happy Cookin!

Do or Don’t go to bed angry??

I always hear don’t go to bed angry! I STRONGLY believe in that advice for 1 REASON ALONE: God forbid your spouse doesn’t wake up the next morning, you would never forgive yourself for the rest of your life especially not if your last exchanged words were hurtful.

But here is another way to look at it! DO go to bed angry. Sometimes problems won’t be resolved in one night and it is better to speak abou them when you are both calm and rested rather than when angry, cranky and tired. Over night the way one feels about somethings may change. Taking the time to think about things and calm down can sometimes help us see solutions outside the box that will resolve the problem.

Italian Sausage Night

Italian Sausage Night!! As the weather gets better we tend to start grilling BUT you look outside and it’s raining…what to do now. I will show you a delicious alternative to grilling those Italian Sausages. The presentation is beautiful and has a taste to match.

How to make Italian Sausages for 4:
4 fresh Italian Sausages
1 Red Pepper
1/2 Onion
Olive Oil
Oregano
Lemon

Directions:
Take a glass cooking dish and line it with aluminum foil. Cut both the pepper and onion in 1/2″ slices. Pour a bit of olive oil in the dish then place the sausages, this will help them not stick to the foil. Cover the sausages with the cut onions and peppers. Drizzle a bit more olive oil and sprinkle some oregano. Cook in the over at 400 F for about 40 minutes. Once ready, place the sausages, onions and peppers on a serving plate, squeeze some lemon juice over, serve and enjoy! Happy Cookin!

Distracted Driving: Epidemic

Have you ever checked a text while you drive?  Or glanced over at your phone to see who is calling while you’re on the highway?

I have always thought that I was amazing at multi-tasking.  I actually still do think that…but not when it comes to my life and the lives of others.  We have all done it before… but come on people wake up!  If you are still texting and fiddling with your cellphone in the car, you might as well be playing with a gun!

Oprah recently aired a shocking show about how dangerous driving while using your cellphone can really be.  You can check out her ‘No Phone Zone‘ for articles, videos, newsletters and more.

If you’re not convinced watch this video http://www.oprah.com/oprahshow/Americas-New-Deadly-Obsession-Partial-Episode-Video

Have you ever had to face a mouse??

A newly wed couple, friends of ours, found mice in there house. They are extremely hygienic, (the couple that is), so I know it is not because they have a dirty household. The mice just decided to move in. A whole family of them found their way into a column in the house.

I find mice to be so adorable. I have Cinderella (good old Disney movies) to thank for my love for mice. According to my hubby, and a few articles I read, mice can destroy the house. They can damage food and food packaging they can chew up the electrical wires start ruining the wood behind the walls. They can also carry diseases that can be deadly. If you gotta get them out of the house, you can always call Terminix or just take matters into your own hands by searching How to Get a Mouse Out of the House: on WikiHow. You should also check out this video, How to get rid of mice, it will give you great tricks to rid your self of your unwanted visitors.

Happy hunting!

Easy and Healthy Sides

After creating a main dish, you’ll be in need of some easy healthy sides. Here are two recipes that we have enjoyed for years and most import are easy to make!

First – How to make Easy Asparagus
This is a very easy side dish to prepare and it’s ready in under 15 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 500. Place the asparagus on a cooking tray and drizzle
with olive oil. Sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on top. Broil for 10-12 minutes.

Second – Baked Cauliflower
This is a favorite in my house. It’s a healthy twist on a Lebanese classic, fried
Cauliflower.

Cut the Cauliflower into 2″ pieces. Place in a bowl and add Olive oil, mix everything together and place on a baking tray. Set the oven to 450F and cook for approximately 10 minutes.
Once the Cauliflower have turned light brown, remove from the oven, sprinkle some salt, serve and enjoy.
Happy Cookin!!

Swiffer vs Mop

The latest debate in our house is mop vs Swiffer.  Jason and I share the housework equally but when it comes to our tools we think very differently.  We are huge fans of the Swiffer family of products, but the question is are they really the best?  Personally I feel that sometimes they don’t get the edges and corners of rooms as well as a regular wet mop or vacuum even.

Jason swears by the Swiffer but I am still on the fence.  Now they have a new Swiffer vacuum that I must try out!  What do you use?  Do you have special techniques?  I’m on the hunt to find the fastest, cheapest, easiest cleaning technique!  Let me know if you have the trick!

If you haven’t tried a Swiffer yet, let me know what you think.  You can try it with a Money Back Guarantee here.

I’m off to try the Swiffer SweeperVac

you will wait an eternity for that eternity ring!!!

Is what a buddy of mine said to his wife while all the men in the room silently agreed! Are diamonds really a girl’s best friend! Some girls really love their diamonds and feel like princesses when they get one. My question is, does everyone get an eternity ring and if so, when is it the right time for one? Another thing the girls mentioned last night was the concept of a push ring instead of a push gift! Are we moving towards a push ring?

When on your next visit to Birks, or the Tiffany web site check out all the beautiful options that are there for you to pick from. For some the $$ may not be a problem but for the rest of us, carefully time the different events so that enough is saved up to buy the next ring!! Hey Babe, so eternity at 5 years? Only 2 more to go for me! Or will the push ring come first?
